Hi I’m Dylan and together with my wife, Joanna I’ve been documenting elopements and weddings since 2012.

We’re passionate about travelling and meeting new people and it was this passion that led us to find one another in Australia in 2010. We didn’t waste time, we got engaged after 3 months and tied the knot not too long after… it all happened quickly but sometimes you just know when you know!

For many years we were both searching for that way to express ourselves creatively and after searching for a while we discovered that documenting humans and their connection was what made our hearts race. We’re all about the raw emotion, the honest moments and capturing how it all really felt. For us that’s where it’s at!

Today we live in Edinburgh with our two sons, specialising in elopements around Scotland, Europe and abroad.

INTERVIEW

Who are you? Describe yourself in a few words.

I grew up in Australia and moved to Scotland with my wife, Joanna, in 2011. We immediately fell in love with the beautiful landscape, and 13 years later, we still call this place home. We couldn't imagine being anywhere else now.

I'm a bit of a geek and am really into technology and all things new. In my spare time, I enjoy learning the technicalities of lighting setups and camera equipment. I'm inspired by movies and enjoy watching the 'behind the scenes' of a movie after I've watched it so I can break down the cinematography and how it was made.

Nothing in the world makes me happier than being home (or traveling) with Joanna and our 2 boys.

Do you think that creativity involves putting your heart and soul into your work?

Absolutely! I think creativity happens when the heart, soul, and brain are all used in conjunction with one another. At least that's how it works for me anyway.

What inspires you on a daily basis?

Light inspires me almost every day. As a photographer, it's something I'm always aware of. From noticing small pockets of light around the house to admiring the beautiful evening or blue hour light and how it transforms the landscape.

What made you decide to follow a creative career choice (though possibly risky) rather than something more stable?

I didn't really consciously decide to become a wedding photographer. It was something that just naturally happened due to circumstances. I never saw it as a risky thing, either. It was something I just really enjoyed, and I think when you are really passionate about something and put all of your energy into it, all the other things will fall into place around it.

When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?

For me, it was when I was about 7 to 8 years old. I loved to sketch and draw, especially. I tried many different disciplines, including pottery, piano, and painting, over the years.

Who is the most creative person that you have ever known?

The most creative person I have ever known is my wife, Joanna. Not only is she a great photographer (and the reason that we started wedding photography in the first place), but she is also a talented ceramics artist and painter. She has a great flair for design, and I am always trying to learn from her.

After these years of working on your craft, do you still feel the joy of doing what you do?

Absolutely! Every wedding I shoot, I am always learning something new and trying to improve myself. Creating beautiful imagery for couples brings me joy, and knowing that they will treasure their photos for years to come is a special feeling to have.

Have you always wanted to do what you are doing?

Wedding photography was something that came to fruition out of a series of events that unfolded over a number of years. I always liked technology and wanted to express myself creatively when I was younger, so I bought a camera. I eventually discovered street photography and met my wife, Joanna, through an online photography community. When we got together, we thought it would be cool to make a living from photography, so when we moved to Scotland, we gave it a shot. We quickly discovered that we enjoyed documenting weddings and still enjoy it to this day!

Is there a particular place where you feel most creative?

Right Home here in Scotland is where I feel most creative. The constant change in seasons, light, weather, and landscape means that each time I travel to the Scottish Highlands, it can be a completely different experience with different creative possibilities.

What is your mission in this life?

Ultimately, I want myself and my family to be happy and fulfilled in life. I want to be a good role model for my kids.
