Alright, let’s roll, folks! I’m Mati - your go-to artistic wedding photographer with a camera in one hand and a knack for making you laugh in the other. Yeah, I know weddings sound serious sometimes, but trust me, they’re basically a big fancy party with better outfits. I’m here to make sure you soak up every ounce of fun, while I work my magic turning moments into something you’ll want to pass down like grandma’s secret recipe.

I specialize in capturing those once-in-a-lifetime vibes - weddings, elopements, engagements, proposals - you name it. Based in Vienna (since 2007, but who’s counting?), I’ve been crafting gorgeous, nostalgic photos that’ll make you say, “Wait, is that us?!”

Born in Poland, raised in Germany, and now an honorary Austrian, I’ve got a mashup of cultures baked into my style. Think cinematic luxury meets raw, unfiltered emotion - shots so good, they’ll have you feeling like you walked straight out of a movie.

Oh, and full disclosure: I can’t take life too seriously. I might toss out some dad jokes mid-shoot, but when it comes to your photos? I’m 100% laser-focused on giving you the kind of images that make your heart skip a beat. These aren’t just photos; they’re emotional time capsules - a legacy you’ll treasure forever. Let’s make some artistry together, yeah?

INTERVIEW

Do you think that creativity involves putting your heart and soul into your work?

Absolutely! I’m more than convinced that, in the long run, things can only truly thrive if our souls and hearts are fully invested. They are the source of truth and authenticity. Otherwise, you’d quickly give up on what you’re doing - or end up pretending, to yourself or others, that you love or enjoy something that you don’t genuinely feel or care for deep down.

What is creativity to you? Do you consider yourself to be creative? Why or why not?

Creativity is one of the most important things in photography, but also in life. I’d say I’m creative, as long as time, the situation, and the mood allow it. For me, creativity is the ultimate expression of freedom - those moments when you can let go, trust your intuition, and above all, trust your feelings and your worldview - without being judged. It’s also a way for me to better understand myself and my surroundings, and to see things from a different (and personal) perspective. That’s why I celebrate it so much - it’s like a one-of-a-kind signature!

Do you believe in destiny?

Oh yes, absolutely! I’m sure that at one point or another, in certain situations or stages of life, you inevitably encounter destiny - whether positive or negative. I don’t overanalyze certain events too much; instead, I try to accept them as they are and integrate them into my life.

What inspires you on a daily basis?

Definitely my kids, the nature around me (have you ever watched the way nature moves - wow), the constantly changing light, films (preferably black and white), music, and all the people out there with their stories to tell.

Who do you define as a visionary?

The people who understand what life is really about. The ones who give so much without expecting anything in return. The ones who love unconditionally. The ones who think a few steps ahead. The ones who show appreciation for others. To me, they are the true visionaries because they’ve figured out how peaceful and respectful coexistence works - ensuring humanity’s survival in the long run.

What made you decide to follow a creative career choice (though possibly risky) rather than something more stable?

Definitely the passion. After my studies, I spent years working as an employee, but it never felt 100% right. Now, as a self-employed photographer, I somehow work way more than I did before (and I think I probably earn less after all the taxes, haha), but it’s that sense of alignment I feel - the feeling of being in the right place and having found my purpose. And I love every moment of it.

After these years working on your craft, do you still feel the joy to do what you do?

Absolutely, otherwise, I wouldn’t still be doing it today. Of course, there are ups and downs now and then - but that’s true for any job. When I feel like I’m temporarily losing a bit of joy in photography, I try something new and explore areas beyond weddings or elopements. That fresh perspective always revitalizes my work and outlook, so it never gets boring. Sometimes, taking a creative break helps too - like stepping back for two weeks after an intense wedding season to focus on family and friends, or finally tackling something I’ve been putting off. When I return, I feel recharged and ready to get back to my roots with full energy.

Is there a particular place where you feel most creative?

In nature, away from all the chaos. It’s one of the few places where I can fully immerse myself in my thoughts without distractions. Sometimes, I just lie down in the grass by the fields near us and look up at the sky—those are the moments when my emotions, my scattered thoughts, and everything in my head fall back into place. When I get up again, I feel more clarity, more space for new ideas, and more creativity. Plus, the way nature behaves is such a spectacle and one of the best sources of inspiration for my creativity. It’s also where I learn the most about light.

Is it difficult to maintain your level of knowledge? What do you do to improve it?

Every day, I admit to myself that I don’t know everything - but at the same time, I want to know more today than I did yesterday. I’m not a perfect artist, not a perfect father or husband, not a perfect person in everyday life - but I’m willing to learn from my mistakes and stay open to new things. It’s important to listen to the opinions and perspectives of others and see how you might combine them with your own. Expanding your horizons... and always being ready to evolve and improve your knowledge. Every single day. That’s how I stay constantly motivated.

Do you believe art is something you were born with or something you have to find in your daily life? and work for?

Yes, I’m convinced that every person carries a certain form of art within them. Art begins with the uniqueness of each individual. It’s such a broad term. In my opinion, it’s about how willing you are to discover this art (or ability) and how you can express it outwardly. Not everyone wants to do that. But once you start, you can also work on getting better at it consistently.
