INTERVIEW

Do you think that creativity involves putting your heart and soul into your work?

100%! I think creativity flows freely when you feel that rules don't apply to you, whenever you work from the heart. The more time and effort you put into working with a camera, the more it becomes an extension of yourself. In wedding photography, couples who trust in your soul and skill help you to reach the best potential outcome. Combined with your own passion, this trust is one of the best indicators for a successful collaboration.

What in your personal life has influenced you to choose your career?

When I was little, I loved to paint and take photos. When on holidays, I was the one carrying the family camera. I didn't seem to have much talent for painting, so I chose to paint with the camera instead. Starting off with nature photography, my interest and love for people and cultures gradually transitioned me into becoming a portrait and wedding photographer. Since then, I have not regretted taking that path of life and career even once.

Do you ever create hidden meanings or messages in your work? Explain.

Over the years, people have noticed that some of my wedding photos have quite some dark empty spaces. In photographs, that what is pure white does not seem to hide anything from view, but dark areas do. This psychological and often unconscious aspect of darkness sparks the imagination. It’s definitely something I am drawn to for certain photos. Besides giving the photo a clear point of focus for your eyes, it could also make you wonder: what else is there? If possible, I like to mix it up with brighter photos, to keep the series balanced and overly moody.

What made you decide to follow a creative career choice (though possibly risky) rather than something more stable?

At the end of the day, human beings seek a sense of worthiness and fulfilment in life, in order not to feel meaningless. By using my passion for photography and people as a motivational force, I have felt like I have added value to other people's lives so many times. Even though I often doubt myself, people have found a way into my heart by trusting me with their dearest moments; I will be forever grateful for that. It has given me a goal and a sense of value, more so than that a corporate job would have ever been able to give me, considering my personality type.

Have you always wanted to do what you are doing?

I never imagined myself as a wedding photographer, until I was one. And now I can't imagine not being one anymore!

What is your mission in this life?

To add value to other people’s lives.
